Nutritional Testing

Nutritional testing determines the dietary content of food and food products. The Eurofins Food and Water Testing NZ network of laboratories across New Zealand provides analytical testing services for Nutritional Information Panels, Label Claims and other analyses in food, pet food, feed, commodities, and dietary supplements.

With access to a global network of laboratories and dedicated competence centres, we are able to help you with the more specialist analyses.

Nutritional Labelling

We offer nutritional labelling testing through a variety of accredited methods depending on the type of nutrient and testing requirements. Our capability includes:

Carbohydrate Testing:

  • Monosaccharides Glucose, galactose and fructose
  • Disaccharides - Sucrose (Glucose-Fructose), maltose (Glucose-Glucose), and lactose (Galactose-Glucose).
  • Oligosaccharides - Raffinose (Galactose-Glucose-Fructose) and stachyose (Galactose-Galactose-Glucose-Fructose).  Codex Alimentarius Commission has included non-digestible oligosaccharides as a part of dietary fibre.
  • Polysaccharides - Starch (consisting of amylose and amylopectin), xylan, mannan, cellulose, pectin and chitin.

Fatty Acid Testing

Fatty Acid testing is an essential component of nutritional labelling testing.  We can test for:

  • Saturated Fat, Amino Acids, Mono and Polyunsaturated Fats, Trans Fats, and Total Fat for food product labels.
  • Linoleic and Arachidionic Acid (ARA) in pet food.
  • Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA) in meat and dairy products.
  • Omega 3 and Omega 6 Fatty Acids, with an emphasis on Eicosa Pentaenoic Acid (EPA), Docosa Hexaenoic Acid (DHA), Alpha Linolenic Acid (ALA), and Gamma Linolenic Acid (GLA), both in food products and nutraceutical products.

Minerals and Trace Elements Testing

We offer a range of elemental analytes. ICP-OES and ICP-MS techniques are most frequently used to achieve the lowest detection limits to analyse trace amounts. Our testing covers:

  • Major nutritional elements, Calcium, Potassium, Magnesium, Sodium and Phosphorus
  • Minor nutritional elements and toxic element screening, Arsenic, Cadmium, Cobalt, Copper, Iron, Manganese, Lead, Selenium, Zinc.
