Meat Industry Testing

The Eurofins Food and Water Testing NZ network of laboratories across New Zealand offers IANZ and MPI-RLP accredited analytical testing services to the meat processing industry, to support local and export testing and auditing requirements.

Our testing capability covers processing through to finished products for ovine, bovine, caprine, cervine, ratites, and poultry, and includes an extensive scope of water testing to meet HCS, NZDWS, Overseas Market Access Requirements (OMAR) and MPI requirements.  

Our testing scope includes, but is not limited to:

Microbiological Testing

We offer analyses for NMD (National Microbiological Database) and RLP programmes for meat and meat products (including tallow and bonemeal):

NMD

  • Aerobic Plate Count
  • E coli
  • top 7 STEC
  • Salmonella
  • Campylobacter (including for the Swedish market)

RLP

  • Aerobic Plate Count at 30 C
  • E coli
  • Staphylococci (coagulase positive)
  • Salmonella
  • Listeria monocytogenes
  • Clostridium perfringens

Chemistry Testing

We offer proximate analyses for meat and meat products including tallow and bone meal:

  • Ash
  • Fat
  • Moisture
  • Protein

Water Testing

We offer an extensive scope of water testing to meet HCS, NZDWS, OMAR and MPI requirements:

  • Water Potability: For compliance with Human Consumption Specification and to test for routine faecal Coliform, pH, turbidity and chlorine monitoring (as specified by HC and EU Omar requirements).
  • Process Water: For compliance with MPI requirements for domestic and export processing plants to carry out regulated testing of process water in order to meet market access requirements. This covers:
  • Boiler Water: To test for pH, total dissolved solids, sulphite, alkalinity species and phosphate
  • Cooling Towers: To check for Legionella and Heterotrophic Plate Count
  • Overseas Market Access Requirements (OMAR) Groups A and B: To meet Overseas Market Excess Requirements (OMAR) specifications for export premises. Group A is carried out a couple of times a year depending on water usage.
  • New Zealand Drinking Water Standards (NZDWS)
  • Meat Works Outputs: Including water and waste that need treatment to meet Resource Consent requirements.
